Hey, Hey, We're the Monkees! Pose tests. Talked to Dei, who has given me some good ideas to work with for the book monkey, and thanks to Lee Ann, for telling me I should continue to work on it.

Final 5 seconds of Rough Animation for the action analysis. Missing a few frames during the lean back, but this is essentially it. Also, painted the background today, quite proud of myself on this one, in the sense that it took me very little time to paint it. :)

Started the final 1st semester 3D animation last tuesday, but haven't spent much time on it as I've been focusing on 2d, and the film. Just trying to have fun with this, like I do with everything, but it seems to be coming along nicely.

EDIT: Added a digital sketch I did tonight while on my break inbetween storyboarding and animating. Yay for busy nights. :)

EDIT: Much more inbetweens now, noticing some small things/arcs that I still have to tweak. Haven't been able to show DQ since the last pose test, so he hasn't really seen any of it in motion. Looking forward to seein DQ bestow the magic from his fingertips upon it. LOL

A selection of sketches and gestures from the 2008 Royal Winter Fair that is happening this week. I love the place because it reminds me of the early childhood days of being around my grandparents old farm. Back then I hated it, but I look back on it as something I am thankful for and now fondly remember.

EDIT:
Removed the Action Analysis as I've heavily retooled/timed everything. Will upload the new version at some point in the future.

I will bring this design to life at some point. Gotta break the 3/4 left side habit.

Ahem... poorly drawn anatomy studies. :)

Superboy, with inbetweens. Still quite a few problems, but it was just nice to be able to animate something.

And Finally, a rough pose test for my Action Analysis project. Im starting to get comfortable with the design but need to work out the timing, and strengthen some poses/attitudes.

Rough Pose Test, with a few Breakdowns. Boy gets smaller as he gets closer though, so that needs to be fixed.

The Man of Steel Cont.

I figured I should make a new post for this update. Free time hasn't been around much, but I was finally able to make some progress on this baby. I added some twist to Superman, which I think strengthens the pose further and makes it more dynamic. On top of that, I wanted a simpler, bolder version with more appeal, as opposed to an over rendered musclebound Superman.

Still need to tighten the perspective on the buildings, but thats the easy part.

Thanks to everyone who has commented so far.

The Man of Steel

Another attempt at Superman.
EDIT: Beginning to flesh it out into a painting. Maybe this post will become a stepbystep or something.
EDIT2: Expanded and tweaked the composition, Also, Jen said he looked constipated. I argued people lifting heavy things look stupid, but, soon after I saw the light. I like the new version better now. :)

Up and coming.

Some Copic sketches and an early design of the man of steel. I'm working on a new sequential portfolio for this summer's comic conventions, and one of the things I'm doing is a superman short story.

Memory Lane

Here is a sample of my sketchbook from 4 years ago, when I had just finished Art Fundamentals @ Sheridan, and had been accepted into the BAAA for the first time. I had barely made it past the cut with my portfolio, scoring 1 mark above the cut off point, and I think that had I not made it in back then I would have quit drawing altogether. The room drawing, IS my room drawing from that portfolio!

Anyways, Im posting these up, because a friend of mine, Adam Hines, thought it would be cool if I showed stuff I did from the year him and I were in Fundies. I would heartily recommend the Art fundamentals program to anyone thinking about taking animation or illustration while in high school. The program kicked my ass, and I am ever so grateful, as it taught my peers and I, tons.

Today is better than yesterday.

Recent Life drawings from my final 2nd year portfolio. 20Minute, 5minute gestures, 3minute, 3minute, 1 minute, 30seconds, 30seconds, are the pose lengths.

2nd Year life drawing was pretty fun, hopefully 3rd year will continue the streak of great life drawing classes.

The Brain.

Final Animation assignment of the year (besides the clean up part)

Finally getting the hang of accents and timing for animation, not to mention performance. I've still got years of stuff to learn, but thats what I love about animating and drawing. There is always room to improve.

El Zoolio

It was that time of the school year again. An annual trip to the zoo. Woohoo! Here is a sample of gestures of tamarins, macaques (I believe... never checked the sign), gators and crocodiles, and a page of sketches from the mall.

Auto Mobiles

It's been a while since I've drawn some cars. These aren't anything special, but it was nice to get back into doing something I almost pursued as a career. I chose animation over industrial design when I decided designing toasters and coffee machines wasn't my cup of tea.

El Batmano

Whipped this up quick after doing some homework.

Improv as I go, trying a different medium per page.
